Dear Friends,
I hope this finds you enjoying a wonderful Sunday!
I returned to Long Beach this weekend to see my son. The reason for my visit was to bring him his cat. He wanted to wait a month until he was settled in his routine with school. This week he called and said he was ready for his cat, Milo. After the six hour drive, I went for a long walk by the Queen Mary. Upon my return to his place, the two of them were napping together. A boy and his cat. So sweet and it is a good thing he doesn’t get this email. LOL.
I am so grateful for your support of Brooks and you should be too. When you purchase anything from Brooks, you are supporting so many others. Below is a summary of our collective giving since COVID began, a deeper dive into 1% For The Planet and your opportunity to go Beyond Brooks in November!
Cheers!
Approaching $30K
As I mentioned last week, integral to the messaging of B Corporations is that when you buy a company’s product, you are endorsing their practices. As you know, since 2019, Brooks donates 1% of its gross revenues to an environmental non-profit. In addition, we have run various giving programs since COVID started. Congratulations! TOGETHER, we are just shy of giving $30,000 since mid-March. My hope is that together we can double that by the end of 2020! Wouldn’t that be a great memory of 2020! The list of non profits that have benefited from the proceeds to date include:
– The United Sommelier Foundation (via sales of Homage Pinot Noir),
– American Association of African American Vintners (via the Read And Sip event)
– Southern Smoke (via sales of Double Horseshoe Pinot Noir)
– World Central Kitchen (via sales of Story Teller Pinot Noir–sold out)
– Independent Restaurant Coalition (via sales of Homage Pinot Noir)
– Wine Unify (via sales of Beyond Brooks to date and ongoing)
– Kiss The Ground/1% For The Planet (via ALL REVENUE including wine club, tasting room, on line orders, distributor orders)
The opportunity to combine your purchasing power with giving continues. Some of these wines are still for sale. We have 8 more months of Beyond Brooks (and more to come) and EVERY purchase contributes to Kiss the Ground and 1% For The Planet.

The Planet and Kiss The Ground
Words really cannot express how important our membership is with 1% For The Planet (1% FTP). Started by Yvon Chouinard, also the founder of Patagonia, he believes that we owe rent to the planet and if we all give a little, 1%, we can make a difference. Individuals AND companies can be members of 1% FTP. Donated funds are self-directed to a environmental non profit in the 1% FTP network. Since the beginning, we chose the non profit Kiss The Ground. They are the premier educational hub for regenerative agriculture. Our funding has included sponsorship of this short film on biodynamics as well as a farming scholarship program. Recently, Kiss the Ground launched a feature film on Netflix, narrated by Woody Harrelson. I encourage you to watch it. I am excited to announce that Kiss the Ground is our partner for Beyond Brooks in April and together, we will be developing a gardening curriculum together!
Up Next! Let’s Explore The Columbia Gorge
Nate Ready of Floréal Cider has brought decades of experience in the wine industry to his cider making. Nate grew up in California and spent time there as a sommelier at top restaurants before moving to Oregon and working with cult winemaker Maggie Harrison at Antica Terra.
I spoke with Nate this week and cannot wait to not only talk about this region but his delicious cider made from rare apples, pears and quince. We have always loved our wines from the Columbia Gorge and cannot wait to compare and contrast the production methods and tasting of the cider and wines.
This package includes:
• 1 Bottle of 2019 Brooks Oak Ridge Gewurztraminer (dry)
• 1 Bottle of 2017 Brooks Oak Ridge Pinot Noir
• 1 Bottle of Floréal Cider (750ml)
• Webinar on November 14th at 1pm PST/4pm EST with myself, Nate Ready, proprietor of Floréal Cider and Master of Wine, Bree Stock.
JOIN US FOR BEYOND BROOKS IN NOVEMBER
I am super proud of our collective contributions of giving since the beginning of COVID. None of it would be possible without you and I hope you are proud too. While it wasn’t outright giving, I have to mention another great example of support this year is the CSA program we launched with Simington Gardens to support a local farmer hit hard by restaurant closures due to COVID. This program raised close to $10K for Mike Simington and his team.
Next week, I will be sharing an update of havest 2020 and our new efforts to take care of our growers who were significantly impacted by smoke in their vineyards due to the Oregon fires in September.
Let’s keep up the giving spirit through 2020 and beyond! Just wait until you see our holiday offerings! We hope you will join us!
Wishing you a fabulous fall filled week!
